Hearing Aid Accessories, Assistive Listening Devices, Diagnostic Hearing Evaluation Services, and More - Silver Spring, Olney, Aspen Hill, Wheaton and Rockville Maryland

Dr. Gwyneth Newcomb is committed to providing patients with exceptional audiology care. In addition to state-of-the-art hearing aids, Red Hat offers diagnostic hearing evaluation services, hearing aid accessories, assistive listening devices, and more to patients in Silver Spring and throughout Maryland.

Comprehensive Hearing Test Evaluations

All audiology services begin with a complete and accurate hearing test at our Silver Spring office or one of our sister offices in Bowie and Greenbelt. The hearing test helps diagnose the type and degree of hearing loss and determine the best treatment options.

At the beginning of each hearing test, the patient's medical history will be discussed in detail. Then, a check for earwax and a thorough assessment of the condition of the ear canal and eardrum will be made. For the next part of the hearing test, patients are put in a sound proof booth to evaluate how well they can hear sounds of various frequencies and understand speech. A tympanometry test will also be performed that uses sound waves to check for congestion and fluid behind the eardrum, measure how well the eardrum moves, and determine whether the bones in the middle ear are functioning properly. Additional testing may also be performed, depending on the individual's needs.

If it is determined that there is some degree of hearing loss after the hearing test, various treatment options will be discussed and suggestions provided for a hearing aid or other hearing device. To schedule an appointment for a hearing test, contact Red Hat Audiology in Maryland today. Ask about how you can receive a free hearing screening.

Assistive Listening Devices

In addition to high-quality hearing aid products, there are numerous other devices on the market designed to help people who cannot hear well function better in communication situations. Assistive listening devices enable these individuals to respond to the sounds in their environment, such as those from an alarm clock, doorbell, and telephone. Assistive listening devices use flashing lights, vibrations, or sounds to alert individuals who are hard of hearing. They can be used by individuals whether or not they have a hearing aid. At Red Hat Audiology, we carry a variety of assistive listening devices made by popular manufacturers such as Clarity®, ClearSounds®, Sennheiser®, TV EarsTM, and more. Some of the assistive listening devices that we offer to patients from the Silver Spring, Bowie, Annapolis, Greenbelt, and Maryland areas include:

  • Amplified telephones
  • Infrared TV-listening systems
  • Pocketalker® by Williams Sound
  • FM personal listening devices
  • Sonic boom amplified alarm clocks, with or without bed shakers
  • Alerting systems
  • Remote receivers (doorbell, fire alarm, baby sound monitor, etc.)

At Red Hat Audiology, we do everything that we can to satisfy our patients' hearing needs. If you cannot find the assistive listening devices that you are looking for, please contact Red Hat Audiology, and we will find them for you.

Hearing Aid Service and Repair

Hearing aids need daily maintenance and care in order to perform at their peak. We offer a wide variety of hearing aid accessories and services that complement our exceptional devices at our Silver Spring office and at our Bowie practice near Annapolis. We sell batteries, which usually last 10 days if used full-time, for any hearing aid make or model. Ask about our special discount on hearing aid batteries.

It is important to service and repair hearing aids since they are constantly in an environment that is moist and waxy and thus may cause damage. If properly cared for, hearing aids tend to last longer. We service and repair all hearing aid makes and models so that patients can get the most out of their hearing aids. We will also extend the warranty of your hearing aid during repair. Ask about how you can receive a free hearing aid check and cleaning.
